Comet ATLAS seen in 2020 may be part of 5,000-yr-old comet: NASA
NASA said astronomers have concluded that the comet ATLAS, spotted in 2020, may have been a broken-off piece of a comet that might have been visible about 5,000 years ago. It's suspected that about 5,000 years ago a comet had swept within 23 million miles of the Sun. ATLAS had quickly met an "untimely death" in mid-2020 when it disintegrated.
