Conch is made of animal bone, says Uttarakhand minister, sparks controversy

Uttarakhand minister Satpal Maharaj has sparked a controversy by saying that the conch shell is not sounded inside Badrinath Temple as it is made from animal bone. "Bones are not used in worship," he said. Brijesh Sati, general secretary of the Uttarakhand Chardham Teerth Purohit Mahapanchayat, called his statement "absolutely ridiculous". Sati also suggested that Satpal should read scriptures.
