Congress leader Motab Shaikh, who won West Bengal's Farakka seat, called himself "one of the luckiest people" as his name was deleted from the electoral rolls during SIR. An appellate tribunal reinstated his name upon hearing his case on the Supreme Court's direction. "I thought I would never even be able to vote...But the people voted for me," he said.
