Congress demanded UCC in 1925, now backs single community: Assam CM

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said Congress was the first party to advocate for a Uniform Civil Code in 1925 but now it only represents one single community. "Congress is opposing UCC...They represent only one specific community," he added. Assam passed the Uniform Civil Code on Wednesday, becoming the third BJP-ruled state after Uttarakhand and Gujarat to do so.
