Congress slams govt after ex-SC judge claims ex-CJI Chandrachud sought govt nod for appointments

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh slammed the government after former Supreme Court judge Justice Sanjay Kaul claimed that ex-CJI DY Chandrachud sought government approval before appointing judges. "If this is not pressure on the judiciary and an attempt to weaken its independence, then what is it?" Jairam asked. "In a democracy, independence of the judiciary is not an option," he added.
