Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday said that cow slaughter has a "very adverse impact" on the environment and its conservation has nothing to do with religion. "Cow urine and dung increase productivity of land...cow plays an important role in agriculture," he said. Protection of the animal is therefore vital for the maintenance of environmental balance, Fadnavis added.
