Criminal case not needed to prove cruelty in divorce: Telangana HC

Telangana HC ruled that a criminal case need not be filed for cruelty to be accepted in a divorce plea. Hearing a woman’s petition to dissolve her 13-year marriage, the court said she “categorically” established several incidents to indicate instances of physical and mental cruelty. It said many women in matrimonial disputes refrain from filing criminal complaints due to stigma.
