CS Karnan becomes first sitting HC judge sentenced to jail

In a first, a Supreme Court bench found Justice CS Karnan of the Calcutta High Court guilty of contempt of court and sentenced him to six months in prison. Karnan had earlier sentenced the Chief Justice and six other Supreme Court judges to 5 years in jail claiming caste discrimination under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocity) Act.
