CWG champion Sharmila was beaten by ex-husband for not bringing dowry, giving birth to daughters

Sharmila Dhankar, who bagged India’s first-ever CWG para-athletics gold, is a survivor of an abusive marriage. She had revealed that her ex-husband beat her for not bringing the dowry he wanted and later for giving birth to two daughters. When she was 26, he allegedly beat her, stripped her in front of neighbours and threw her out with her daughters.
