Defence spending hiked by 21.84% in Budget 2026 after Op Sindoor

Ministry of Defence has been allocated a budget of ₹7.8 lakh crore for FY27 in the Union Budget 2026. After the success of Operation Sindoor, the defence forces will receive ₹2.19 lakh crore for modernisation under the Capital Outlay budget, marking a 21.84% increase from ₹1.8 lakh crore in FY26. The total defence budget for FY26 was ₹6.81 lakh crore.
