Defending human rights is not a crime: UN official on Setalvad’s arrest

UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights Defenders Mary Lawlor condemned the detention of activist Teesta Setalvad, saying "defending human rights is not a crime". "Teesta is a strong voice against hatred and discrimination. I call for her release and an end to persecution by the Indian state," she said. Setalvad was taken into custody by Gujarat's ATS on Saturday.
