Delhi's Shangri-La Eros Hotel fined ₹1 lakh for automatically adding 10% service charge

Delhi's Shangri-La Eros Hotel was fined ₹1 lakh by the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) for automatically adding a 10% service charge to bills at its Mister Chai restaurant. It rejected the hotel's defence that service charge was discretionary. CCPA said placing the "onus on consumers to opt out of an automatically levied service charge contradicts" its guidelines.
