Demolitions done in Gir Somnath to remove encroachments: Guj govt

Defending its decision to the alleged demolition in Gir Somnath district, Gujarat government informed the Supreme Court that the lands were of government and the demolition took place to remove encroachments. Religious shrines, including mosques, dargahs, eidgahs and mausoleums, were demolished last month. The state said earlier temples were also demolished in the district to remove encroachment.
