Device controls reflection, redirection of sound waves

US-based researchers have demonstrated a metamaterial that can control the transmission and reflection of incoming sound waves with almost perfect efficiency. As a sound wave travels through the device, each cavity resonates at its prescribed frequency. The vibration affects the speed of the sound wave and also interacts with its neighbouring cavities to control both transmission and reflection.
