DHS proposes $70,000 fee per OPT student on US universities
The US Department of Homeland Security proposed a $70,000 fee on universities for each international student nominated under the Optional Practical Training (OPT) program, plus $30,000 for STEM extensions. Citing visa fraud and worker protection, the Trump administration warned it may shut down OPT entirely without the fee. Over 350,000 Indian students could be affected.
