Dinosaurs went extinct within hours: Study

The dinosaurs became extinct 66 million years ago when the six-mile-wide Chicxulub asteroid struck what is now Mexico's Yucatán Peninsula. A new study suggests the impact killed dinosaurs within hours as vapourised rock condensed into tiny "spherules" that rained back to Earth. The impact generated an intense heat pulse and a thick, global dust blanket that trapped heat, it added.
