Doctor explains hidden risk of thalassemia trait

Thalassemia is a genetic disorder affecting haemoglobin production. Many are silent carriers, unaware they can pass on the condition. Dr Satya Prakash Yadav, Director (Bone Marrow Transplant) at Medanta Hospital, Gurugram, stressed the need for awareness and screening. If both parents are carriers, their child may develop thalassemia major, requiring regular transfusions.
