Doctor who conducted India's 1st ever heart transplant passes away

Dr P Venugopal, the former Director of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, has passed away at the age of 82. Dr Venugopal, a pioneer in cardiac surgery in India during the 1970s, conducted the country's first-ever heart transplant at AIIMS. Over his career, he performed more than 50,000 heart surgeries.
