Indian Railways uses Reservation Against Cancellation (RAC) when confirmed berths in a class have been allotted but limited accommodation remains. RAC passengers can board the train and are provided reserved seating accommodation. In classes with sleeping berths, two RAC passengers may initially share one berth designated for RAC passengers. Thus, journey is assured, but not a full sleeping berth.
