Switzerland midfielder Remo Freuler criticised Portuguese referee João Pedro Silva Pinheiro over the red card shown to his teammate Breel Embolo during their FIFA World Cup 2026 quarter-final against Argentina. "It's just a disaster," the 34-year-old said, adding, "I don't know what this referee is doing here." Embolo was sent off for mistaken identity following a VAR review.
