Doomsday Glacier may double sea level rise by 2100: Study
New research by UC Irvine and NASA glaciologists warns Antarctica's Thwaites Glacier is melting faster than projected, potentially adding 1.2 inches to global sea levels by 2100, two-time more than earlier estimates. A newly modelled 'grounding zone' reveals warm seawater penetrates deep beneath the ice. Scientists also estimate a 60% chance the glacier breaks free from a stabilising underwater ridge by 2100.
