'Drunk', round pigeon named New Zealand bird of the year

Kererū, a native green and bronze wood pigeon, known to fall from trees after consuming rotten berries, has been named the 2018 bird of the year in New Zealand. Conservation group Forest and Bird, which runs the polls, described Kererū as "clumsy, drunk, gluttonous and glamorous" and the "whooshiest of whooshes". Meanwhile, PM Jacinda Ardern tweeted "I salute you @Kereru4PM".
