Earth almost entirely in red as El Niño intensifies
The El Niño phenomenon is intensifying and could become one of the strongest since 1950, WMO said. Meteorologist Ryan Maue shared a climate map showing most of Earth in red. Pacific sea-surface temperatures could reach 3.7°C above normal between October and December. The event may raise global temperatures, disrupt rainfall and worsen climate-change impacts through February 2027.
