Earth's solid inner core is soft like butter: Study

Recent research, led by University of Texas at Austin and Chinese collaborators, stated that Earth's inner core which was thought to be a solid metal sphere, might actually be soft like butter. The softness would be due to hyperactive atoms within its molecular structure. This discovery has the potential to shed light on Earth's unpredictable magnetic field behaviour, researchers believe.
