To reduce wastage, numerous restaurants in Germany have started charging guests extra for wasting food. A restaurant in Stuttgart city fines its guests €1 (about $1) under its ‘eat up or pay up’ campaign if they leave food which cannot be used for others. Another in Menden town charges guests €2 extra for wasting over 100 grams of food.
