Economic policy uncertainty reaches this century's highest level: Report

In early 2025, Economic Policy Uncertainty Index reached its highest level this century fuelling financial turbulence, UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD) said in its latest report. It surpassed peaks during 2008 financial crisis and COVID-19 pandemic. "Trade tensions are escalating, with recent tariff hikes undermining predictability. Rising fragmentation…could deepen the downturn," UNCTAD said.
