Edwin Hubble was 1st to show evidence of expanding universe

American astronomer Edwin Hubble, born on November 20, 1889, was the first to provide evidence of universe's expansion. Hubble studied and compared the spectra of 46 different galaxies and found that the farther apart galaxies are from each other, the faster they move away from each other. The rate of expansion of the universe is called the Hubble constant.
