El Nino may push more 49 mn people into food insecurity by 2027 end: UN

A strong El Nino weather event could push 49 million additional people into food insecurity by end of 2027, UN's World Food Programme (WFP) said. It added there is 81% chance of an El Nino event as sea surface temperatures are at their warmest level since 1982. A WFP Director said such events triggered large scale hunger in the past.
