Electricity eats 45% of metro running costs: Ashwini Bhide, IAS
BMC Commissioner Ashwini Bhide revealed on the podcast that electricity accounts for 40-45% of a metro's operating cost, with underground trains' traction power the biggest drain. Cutting power bills directly cuts losses, so efficient systems are deployed and a gradual shift to green energy is planned, she said. Public transport must run on it for the 2050 net-zero goal.
