India's electronics exports rose 4.3x in five years from $11 bn to $48 bn, overtaking petroleum and pharma to become the country's second-largest export as global firms diversify away from China. Imports doubled to $116 bn over the same period, widening the trade gap to $68 bn. The reason: final assembly has scaled, but chips and displays are still imported.
