Three subspecies of miniature foxes have made a world record for the fastest recovery of a mammal from the brink of extinction in the 43-year history of the Endangered Species Act. In 2004, the three species native to California’s Channel Islands were reportedly given a 50% chance of going extinct in the next decade.
