Ethiopia and Somalia restore diplomatic ties after year-long rift

Somalia's President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud visited Ethiopia and met PM Abiy Ahmed to improve relations between the two neighbours after a year of tensions. Both countries agreed to restore bilateral relations through full diplomatic representation in their capitals. The diplomatic tension began last year after Ethiopia planned to build a naval base in Somalia’s breakaway region of Somaliland.
