EU regulator fines Meta over ₹2,200 cr for 2018 data breach that affected lakhs

European Union's (EU) privacy regulator has issued a fine of €251 million (over ₹2,200 crore) on Meta for a data breach that took place in 2018. The breach had affected nearly 29 million Facebook accounts, of which around 3 million were in EU. Ireland's Data Protection Commission, which issued the penalty, stated that Meta had notified it about the breach.
