EU to act against TikTok, Instagram for their 'addictive models'

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said the EU will act against social media such as Instagram and Tiktok to protect children from their 'addictive design'. Pointing to risks like sleep deprivation, depression, anxiety and self-harm, she said, "They ⁠are the result of business models that treat our children's attention as ​a commodity." Regulations are expected later this year.
