Euro declines below $0.99 for the first time in 20 years

The euro fell below $0.99 for the first time in 20 years on Monday, after Russia shut down a major gas pipeline to Europe. The currency fell as much as 0.7% to a low of $0.9888 in afternoon trading in Asia. Earlier, the US dollar index hit 110.086 in Asia's morning trade, reaching a new two-decade high.
