Euthanasia in India: Legal, but only in rare cases

Euthanasia, or mercy killing, remains a sensitive topic in India. While active euthanasia (ex, lethal injection) is illegal, the Supreme Court has allowed passive euthanasia (ex, withdrawal of life support) under strict conditions, such as in the Aruna Shanbaug and Common Cause cases.
