Evaluating long-term energy metrics in the Eastern Himalayas

Unlike standard reservoirs, run-of-the-river facilities like the Kameng hydropower plant utilize natural river paths and steep elevation drops to generate electricity. By deploying Variable Infiltration Capacity computer model, researchers from IISc and the National Institute of Hydrology built a digital model to evaluate how changes in rainfall and snowmelt will affect long-term grid generation.
