Ex-FIFA VP Barassi hid WC trophy in shoebox under his bed during WWII
During World War II, the then-used FIFA World Cup trophy, the Jules Rimet Trophy, was held by the 1938 champions Italy. Ottorino Barassi, then Vice President of FIFA and President of the Italian Football Federation, secretly transported it from a bank in Rome. He hid the trophy in a shoebox under his bed to protect it from the Nazis.
