Ex-Finance Secretary claims real GDP growth is 2.6%, not 7.8%; BJP questions his calculation

Former finance secretary Subhash Chandra Garg claimed that India grew by only 2.6% in Q1 FY27 and not 7.8%. BJP's Amit Malviya said Garg "turned into a full-time doomsayer on the Indian economy" after being removed from the Finance Ministry over his performance. Meanwhile, BJP and government sources said Garg "merely found two different columns and compared the wrong ones".
