Ex-head monk of China's Shaolin Temple jailed for 24 years for corruption, fined ₹5 crore
The former abbot of Shaolin Temple, famed as the birthplace of kung fu, has been sentenced to 24 years in prison and fined 3.5 million yuan (around ₹5 crore), according to Chinese state media. Buddhist monk Shi Yongxin earlier pleaded guilty to abusing his role at the temple. He embezzled funds, misappropriated assets and accepted bribes over nearly three decades.
