Ex-German Chancellor Merkel wins UNHCR award for resettling refugees

Former German Chancellor Angela Merkel has won the United Nations Refugee Agency's (UNHCR) Nansen Refugee Award for welcoming more than a million refugees, mostly from Syria, into Germany. "It [the award] recognises her moral and political courage in helping more than a million refugees rebuild their lives," Filippo Grandi, UNHCR chief said. Merkel will also get $150,000 prize money.
