Export duty hike on iron ore to ensure steel supply for domestic use: Govt

Steel Secretary Sanjay Singh on Tuesday defended the government's move to increase export duty by 50% on iron ore and 15% on some steel intermediaries. Singh said the decision was taken to ensure that "domestically we can consume more than we produce". He added that the raw material problem was addressed by waiving import duty on coking coal and ferronickel.
