Extreme heat during pregnancy raises risk to newborns in India: Study

Sustained spells of extreme heat are associated with an increased risk of low birth weight, pre-term birth and stillbirth, with the impact depending on when during pregnancy the heat occurred, according to a new study. Researchers analysed 2,09,266 births recorded in India's National Family Health Survey between 2015 and 2020. The study was published in Environmental Research Communications.
