Drinking extremely hot tea or coffee, particularly above 65°C, may increase the risk of oesophageal cancer, research suggests. The concern is not the beverage itself but repeated exposure to very high temperatures, which can damage the oesophagus. Allowing hot drinks to cool before consuming them may help reduce the risk associated with heat-related irritation.
