Felicette: The cat who made history with spaceflight

Felicette, a stray cat, made history on October 18, 1963, when she became the first and only cat to survive a spaceflight. Launched from the Sahara Desert, her capsule reached around 98 miles above Earth. Scientists later euthanised her for brain research, but decades later, a bronze statue was unveiled in France in 2019 to honour her contribution.
