FIDE keeps penalties so that players don't speak facts: Koneru Humpy
Indian Grandmaster Koneru Humpy criticised FIDE as she faces a €10,000 (about ₹10.9 lakh) penalty threat for withdrawing from the Candidates tournament 2026 in Cyprus amid Middle East conflict. "That's the point. That is why [FIDE] keeps [penalties] so that players won't speak out the facts," she said. "I'm not playing just for money...I just enjoy the sport," Humpy added.
