With 211 member associations, football’s governing body FIFA has more members than the United Nations, which has 193 members at present. While FIFA was founded in 1904 by seven European countries, the UN was founded in 1945 with 51 founding members. India was one of the founding members of the UN but got FIFA’s affiliation only after independence in 1948.
