FIFA World Cup debutants Cape Verde held two-time champions Uruguay to a 2-2 draw in Miami, following their goalless draw against Spain. Kevin Pina scored Cape Verde's first-ever World Cup goal with a long-range free kick in 21st minute. It was cancelled out by Uruguay's Maxi Araujo and Agustin Canobbio before Cape Verde's substitute Helio Varela equalised in 61st minute.
