FIFA World Cup trophy prop malfunctions during opening ceremony in Canada

A giant inflatable replica of the World Cup trophy malfunctioned during Canada's FIFA World Cup 2026 opening ceremony at Toronto Stadium on Friday. As it was raised, the outer covering around its base peeled away to expose the inflatable tubes before the structure deflated and was removed. The ceremony took place ahead of Canada's match against Bosnia and Herzegovina.
