Fiji got independence on this day

Fiji, the island country in the South Pacific Ocean towards the east of Australia, gained independence from the United Kingdom on October 10, 1970. Notably, the King of Fiji - Seru Epenisa Cakobau - had surrendered the country to the UK on the same day in 1874. Since their independence, October 10 is celebrated as Fiji Day across the nation.
